Flux 1.3.7

Advanced XHTML and CSS web design software.

****.

Flux... Advanced XHTML and CSS web design software.

You can do Web 2.0, AJAX, and most other buzzword-compliant things. Flux has the following features:

  • Drag and drop design of web pages, you can do almost anything without touching or even seeing XHTML/CSS . But you can meddle with the code if you want.
  • Apply cool (or cheesy) effects to images from right within Flux.
  • Attach funky javascript actions to your page without having a clue what you're doing.
  • Embed Quicktime Movies, Flash and other objects.

Create the whole site within the WYSIWYG editor, type in XHTML, or a bit of both. You can use one of the supplied templates (this very website is included!) to get you started, or just stare creatively at a blank page.

Flux actually is quite an intriguing program, especially for those who have coded in HTML standard block tags... There appears to be no documentation or tools for the standard HTML tags... Paragraph, Lists, etc. WYSIWYG you say... It then dawned on me - that the entire program is designed around DIVs and SPANs and DIVs are all classed... Very interesting approach but the documentation doesn't really make light of this. So I would rate it highly on terms of innovativeness... but poor on documentation - I realize the program is Beta - but the developers have to make it more clearly that the code one creates in the graphical environment will not consist of the standard HTML tagsets that we are used to. It will work for new browsers.. and fully will work for DHTML and AJAX... I think there is a strong future for this product given the new mindset... The program does need some GUI fixes however as the tag markers - obscure contents of the tags in some cases... (yes you can toggle them off but it would be nice if the tag marker dodged the content). Great start on a cool way of generating web pages..

You know this is one of those application that looks very promising, but right now it has enough flaws that you can't really see it being very useful to build great web sites. One just has to look at their website to, that one can see its limited functionality, so I have to agree with big77 they get to develope it with the coopperation of all their users and they would get to not charge us for awhile any upgrade fees until this application matures quite a bit more ( I hate those developers that show their customers some respect and develope their applications that actually work before they jump from version 1.5.4, lets say to version 2.0 and they start asking for an upgrade fees, not fair.) Anyway these guys seem to be on the right path with this application, lets just hope they keep it that way.

this app isnt as good as it was advertised. Purchased this on Maczot. Yes, they have responsive devs. Yes, the interface is beautiful. But it has a lot bugs. An inaccurate WYSIWYG editor. For example, you will place a pic there, but that picture will move a bit right or left, up, down from where I put it. Same with other objects..You need to press the update button everytime you change the source code.

According to their website, Flux came out of beta in March of this year, so I think the MacUpdate dev note is out of date.

I have purchased this app a while ago through another promotion. What made it appeal to me was the chance to edit the code manually in a sort of split view, much like in Dreamweaver.

Still, I haven't yet really got the hang of the app, for some reason it is not intuitive to me.

Another thing I noticed: when using it (and nothing else besides iTunes maybe) it makes the fans of my MB Core Duo 2.0, 2GB memory behave like a fan in the summertime. I have no clue why.

Still, I think once I get the hang of the app it will be very useful, I just didn't have time yet.

I really like this app. I purchased it in another promotion and have been very impressed. It's definitely a unique approach to web design, and may take some getting used to, but worth the learning the curve. Having access to the code makes it unique compared to some of the WYSIWYG HTML generators out there like Freeway (which I like as well). The interface is beautiful. The CSS is right up front and controlled with very nice visual controls, similar to CSSEdit, but not as full featured. It's not perfect, but this is one of those applications that has so much potential, and as it matures, watch out! So far the developers have been very responsive. Considering the price of Rapidweaver, Freeway, Sandvox, etc. I think $69 is a pretty fair price for this app. $29 is a no-brainer.

Just saw that it is actually not in beta. They have also added Ruby on Rails to the program too. It may be worth looking into further.

Ah ha. Flux has Ruby on Rails (RoR) support; as far as I know Rapidweaver 4 doesn't. RoR may not be for everyone, but is something I could use for custom web apps. ANd there is an opportunity to expand to iPhone site building as well. The beta status doesn't bother me since I'm certain the ongoing development will include free upgrades at least until version 2.0.

It says it is still in beta. Will the complete version be included at this price?

I have been looking for an easy way to do AJAX with a SYSIWYG interface... Can't wait to see if that will fulfil my needs.
